Dynamite Entertainment Inks Deal With Atari For New Publications

The world of Atari is set to return! Dynamite Entertainment announced yesterday through a press release that they have agreed to publish new and existing material based on Atari titles. The first order of business is a comprehensive retrospective hardback book detailing Atari's gaming and art history. The deal also gives Dynamite the initiative to reprint existing material as well as create new comic books and graphic novels.
Atari: "We are excited to be teaming up with Dynamite Entertainment to bring a modern twist to a classic series of comics and table top books that are rich with historic art," said Fred Chesnais, Chief Executive Officer, Atari, Inc. "Atari's roots in the comic book world and iconic art is a collector and video game enthusiast's dream. Our partnership is a fun way to expose our brand to a new generation and resonate with our long-time fans."
Dynamite: "Atari is a touchstone for so many people," says Dynamite Director of Business Development Rich Young. "Their games and game system exposed a lot of folks to video games for the first time…and frankly, got them hooked! I have fond memories of playing games on the 2600 with friends growing up, and am quite happy that we have a chance to work with Atari on this publishing program."
Dynamite has already named a hit list for new comics which includes "Asteroids®, Centipede®, Crystal Castles®, Missile Command®, Tempest®, Yar's Revenge®, and more." Expect printed versions at your local comic shop and also digital platforms including Comixology, Dynamite Digital, iVerse, and Dark Horse Digital. Fans are encouraged to follow Atari and Dynamite on social media for updates and release dates.

I'm really encouraged that Atari is reconnecting with the comic book universe after nearly 30 years. The box art for early 2600 games was really rich and I hope Dynamite can tap into it for their new material. My comic book interest is at an all-time high with the recent return of '80s franchises so my hopes are very high!
