1980s produced and writer Stephen Downing passed away on November 20, 2025 from sepsis at the age of 87.

Mr. Downing started out as a commanding officer for the Los Angeles Police Department and captured a second job, turned career, as a screenwriter and television producer. Beginning as a writer on television shows such as Dragnet, Emergency, Kojak, and Walking Tall, then working in 1970s television shows such as Baretta and Police Woman, Quincy, and The Streets of San Francisco. Moving into our beloved 1980s , he became a showrunner for F/X, Knight Rider, and RoboCop: The Series before landing his most famed role as producer of MacGyver.
