Actress Mary Beth Hurt passed away on March 28, 2026 while dealing with Alzheimer's disease at the age of 79. She was residing in an assisted living facility in Jersey City, NJ at the time.
Originally from Marshalltown, Iowa, she set her sights on an acting career; studying her craft at both the University of Iowa and subsequently New York University. In 1974, she landed her first role in More Than You Deserve from Jim Steinman and Michael Weller, an off-Broadway rendition. She later landed roles in Trelawny of the Wells (1975), Chilly Scenes of Winter (1979), Crimes of the Heart (1981), The World According to Garp (1982), Benefactors (1985), and many more with television appearances in the Law & Order shows/sets, Thirtysomething, and Saturday Night Live
